Flamingo Watering Can
Core Curriculum Area- Self Help Skills /Social Skills
Jassi waters the garden with her new Flamingo Watering Can and her friend Gemma is assisting.Together they are laughing ,smiling and conversing as they fill the can with water.
Often we assume that children know how to do simple activities and don’t give instructions on what the task involves.
In this activity Jassi fills up her watering can and takes it outside to water the garden however Jassi doesn’t know how the water comes out and starts pouring it out of the hole she filled up.
Jassi hasn’t used a Flamingo Watering Can this is her first time .She doesn’t have previous knowledge or experiences with the task at hand.
Jassi needs to be shown how to use the watering can in this is called explicit teaching.
Due to learning differences with children with autism and intellectual disability exposure doesnt equate to learning .
Tip children with learning differences often need to be explicitly taught how to do things including every day activities.
