Planet Jassi – Space Craft Dragonflies
Hi Superstars
Join Jassi in her segment Space Craft . In this episode Jassi gives explicit instruction on how to make Sparkes her Dragon fly using basic craft materials. You will need texta’s, glue stick, pipe cleaners, beads, clothes peg and some sequins.
Jassi loves making her own creations and feels proud of herself when she completes the task successfully.
In this video Jassi uses organizational skills such as preplanning as she has all her material ready to go. Jassi has a plan on what she is making and how she will do it. Jassi also knows some basic facts about dragon flies such as they have two sets of wings a long body and 2 big googly eyes. Jassi uses some preknowledge which helps her plan and match her expectations on how the dragon fly should look.
For teachers and parents/carers this is important because individuals with autism usually have a literal thinking style and like to do things correctly often to the extreme intensity which can look like perfectionism. Did you notice that Jassi used good self regulation skills when things didn’t quiet go to plan , she stayed calm recognised her mistake and started again. Its important for kids to remain calm and have some copying strategies when they make mistakes after all that why its called learning and mistakes are part of the learning process.
For more information on how you can use this video in your classroom you can contact the Planet Jassi team and have an autism consultant discuss this further.
